People living, working and going to school here are breathing toxic air every day and we deserve better. Over 10,000 deaths per year are attributed to air pollution in London and we need urgent action.
A recent study linked 1 in 10 childhood asthma cases to air pollution and another study showed that children living close to polluted roads were at greater risk of developing serious mental health issues.
Not everywhere is as neglected as Kingston. As a result of the introduction of a Low Emission Bus Zone, Putney High Street’s pollution has significantly reduced with an 87% fall in NOx emissions.
Cromwell Road in Kingston is highlighted as one of the top 3 worst areas for air pollution in London, in close proximity to several nursery schools, a primary school and two secondary schools.
