Today, Aphra Brandreth, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston and Surbiton, visited Berrylands Nature Reserve to find out about the excellent work by local conservationists and volunteers to transform this once neglected site into a fantastic nature reserve that the whole community can now enjoy. A newly established friends group aims to continue to improve Berrylands Nature Reserve for the benefit of both wildlife and the local community, and where possible to support other local green spaces. You can find out more about the site at their website.
Aphra met with Elliot Newton, head of Conservation at Citizen Zoo, and Tom Hooker Chairman of Surbiton Wildlife Groupto hear about their conservation work in Kingston, and their plans for WILD Kingston. This will be a first of its kind event coming to Kingston, bringing residents together to focus on our nature and wildlife.
Aphra Brandreth said: “This is an amazing nature reserve, nestled away in Berrylands but filled with amazing wildlife. It is great to see nature thriving here and the community benefiting from this amazing peaceful space. I’m so impressed by the passion and vision of local conservationist Elliot and the amazing volunteers like Tom who are helping to improve biodiversity and community engagement.”
